White House Boasts: “We Control the News Media”

President Obama’s presidential campaign focused on “making” the news media cover certain issues while rarely communicating anything to the press unless it was “controlled,” White House Communications Director Anita Dunn disclosed to the Dominican government at a videotaped conference.

“Very rarely did we communicate through the press anything that we didn’t absolutely control,” said Dunn.

“One of the reasons we did so many of the David Plouffe videos was not just for our supporters, but also because it was a way for us to get our message out without having to actually talk to reporters,” said Dunn, referring to Plouffe, who was Obama’s chief campaign manager.

“We just put that out there and made them write what Plouffe had said as opposed to Plouffe doing an interview with a reporter. So it was very much we controlled it as opposed to the press controlled it,” Dunn said. Read more…

Unemployment Hits 22%

WND–The true rate of unemployment for October 2009 may be 22.1 percent, not the 10.2 percent reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Jerome Corsi’s Red Alert reports.

Unemployment at 22.1 percent, if accurate, would be at numbers not seen since peak unemployment during the 1973 to 1975 recession.

Economist John Williams, publisher of ShadowStats.com, estimates that the peak of unemployment in nonfarm unemployment in the Great Depression of the 1930s would, by his methodology, have registered at 34 to 35 percent in 1933.

So, how does the Obama administration get away with reporting the lower unemployment percentage?

Corsi explained that the Clinton administration changed the way BLS calculates unemployment statistics by excluding “discouraged workers,” those who had given up looking for a job because there were no jobs to be found.

Since the Clinton years, discouraged workers looking for a job for more than one year are not counted as “unemployed” because they are considered to have dropped out of the labor force.

The BLS still includes in “U6 Unemployment” calculations short-term discouraged workers, as long as they have been looking for a job less than one year.

This definition permits the Obama administration to under-report “U3 unemployment” at 10.2 percent when real unemployment as calculated before the Clinton administration redefinition is twice that amount, Red Alert contends, and U6 unemployment lies somewhere in between.

These differences are illustrated in the following chart that Williams produces in the “Alternative Data” section of his website named “Shadow Government Statistics: Analysis Behind and Beyond Government Economic Reporting.”

JCT Confirms Failure to Comply with Democrats’ Mandate Can Lead to 5 Years in Jail

Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail.  The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years. Fort Hood Terrorist Says His Goodbyes

FORT HOOD, Texas – As if going off to war, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan cleaned out his apartment, gave leftover frozen broccoli to one neighbor and called another to thank him for his friendship — common courtesies and routines of the departing soldier. Instead, authorities say, he went on the killing spree that left 13 people at Fort Hood, Texas, dead.

Investigators examined Hasan’s computer, his home and his garbage Friday to learn what motivated the suspect, who lay in a coma, shot four times in the frantic bloodletting. Hospital officials said some of the wounded had extremely serious injuries and might not survive.

The 39-year-old Army psychiatrist emerged as a study in contradictions: a polite man who stewed with discontent, a counselor who needed to be counseled himself, a professional healer now suspected of cutting down the fellow soldiers he was sworn to help. Read more…

The political economy of ancient Israel being a theocratic republic, the promise in the passages is that the officers necessary to constitute a republican form of government would be restored, and the elective franchise would be free, and the people would possess the sovereign right of choosing their own rulers and judges. At Least 10 Victims Discovered in Anthony Sowell’s Home

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Police have discovered four bodies and the remains of a fifth this afternoon at the home of Anthony Sowell, bringing the total body count to 11.

Sowell’s home on Imperial Avenue now ranks among the deadliest crime scenes in Cleveland history.

Sowell, 50, was charged with five counts of aggravated murder even as workers continued finding more bodies in his back yard.

A heated tent is being installed in the back yard so crews can work through the night.

Police, coroner and fire personnel are at the home, along with a dump truck.

Police have scheduled a news conference for 6 p.m. Crews started digging this afternoon, two days after they had stopped searching for bodies.

Sowell is being held on suspicion of murder after police found six decomposing bodies in his home. The bodies were scattered througout the home, including buried in a shallow grave in the basement, in crawl spaces and left in the home.

A search warrant obtained over the weekend gave police permission take apart the home brick by brick if necessary, police sources said.

American Fired for His Opinion that Homosexuality is Wrong

Peter Vadala was fired and the company says he violated a tolerance policy. But Vadala reports his dismissal came because he expressed his Christian view of homosexuality after a female manager made repeated references as she approached him four times during work hours to her plans to marry her lesbian partner.

“At the start of the day, she told me she was getting married. I told her ‘Congratulations,’ and asked, ‘Where’s he taking you on your honeymoon?’” Vadala said.

“She replied that her partner was a ’she,’” he continued, “So I immediately tried to change the subject.

“I think she knew I was uncomfortable talking about it,” he continued. “But, she brought it up to me three more times during the day.

“That’s what I said. I wasn’t rude about it and I didn’t act disrespectfully to her,” he said. “All the woman said to me as she left the store was, ‘Human Resources buddy. You keep your opinions to yourself!’”

Vadala said when he was hired he went through the company’s training program, including a requirement to watch a video.

“In the video, there was a homosexual man who said he overheard two workers talking. One man in the outsourced video tells the other, ‘If a homosexual man hits on me, he better watch out.’

“The homosexual man in the video said he was offended, but I’m not allowed to be offended by a homosexual … I was told that since homosexual marriage is supposedly legal in Massachusetts, that I was wrong for being offended,” Vadala said.

A Brookstone human resources staffer called a few days after the incident and Vadala said he told the caller he wanted to resolve the matter.

“I spoke to (the human resources staff member) and I wanted to resolve it. I said that for his sake, the matter needed be resolved because this manager will be around customers who, chances are, will be offended by the types of things she is saying,” Vadala said

But during the course of the conversation Vadala said it became clear the call wasn’t about resolving the issue.

It was a few days later Vadala received a termination letter from Brookstone.

The letter accused Vadala of “harassment” and described his comments as “inappropriate and unprofessional.” Further, the letter charged, he was “imposing” his beliefs upon others.

Vadala said the letter from Brookstone, signed by Susan McGrath, contained numerous false accusations.

In a copy made available to WND, the letter reads, “You acknowledge that you then expressed to Ms. (name blacked out) that you disagreed strongly with her homosexual lifestyle and that [you] believe it is wrong. You describe it in your statement, as you did when speaking with me, as ‘deviant.’”

But Vadala said he didn’t use that word.

McGrath’s letter further asserts that a sales associate “who was working with you at the time … provided a written statement indicating that while she did not witness the conversation … you did tell her later that you ‘knew (she) is marrying another woman’ and that you ‘hate people like that.’”

Vadala reports he also did not say that.

McGrath refused WND’s request to comment on the dispute. Instead she suggested Brookstone’s legal department be contacted. That department did not respond.

When contacted about the firing, store manager Katelyn Woodard said, “You need to speak to human resources about this and if you call this number again, I’ll file harassment charges.”

Vadala said it’s clear to him he was fired for his faith.

“Absolutely,” he confirmed.

The AMERICANS Are Coming!

Lawmakers are calling on Americans to storm the Capitol on Thursday in an “Emergency House Call on Congress” to stop the House from passing the Democrats’ health-care bill this week.

A group of legislators led by Reps. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., and Pete Hoekstra, R-Mich., will be holding an emergency town-hall meeting outside the Capitol at 12 p.m. to protest the health-care bill set to hit the House floor. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has indicated that a vote on the bill could take place as soon as Thursday.

Bachmann is urging citizens to come to Washington and “pay an emergency House call to Congress.”

“This is the most effective way we have to kill socialized medicine and to do it this week,” she said. “Nothing is more effective at reaching a congressman than having a citizen come to Washington, D.C. – not asking for a handout, not asking for tax money, not asking to take some liberty away from somebody else, but just asking for freedom.”

She said the American people spoke loud and clear this summer, telling Congress they don’t want “cradle-to-grave takeover of health care.” According to Rasmussen Reports, a full 54 percent of voters are now opposed to the House version of health-care reform. Only 23 percent of all voters strongly support the plan while nearly twice as many, or 44 percent, expressed strong opposition.

“We saw tea parties. We saw the 9/12 movement where literally hundreds of thousands of Americans, if not more, all converged on the Capitol on a Saturday. People did this to get the attention of their members of Congress,” Bachmann said. “This is the week when the decision will be made about whether we will choose liberty or tyranny, whether we will choose socialized medicine or a free market.”

Actor John Voight and “Liberty and Tyranny” author Mark Levin have volunteered to come and speak at the event. Dr. Betsy McCaughey, former New York lieutenant governor and senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, will speak as well.

Bachmann cited a study by William Boyes, an economics professor at the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University, who estimated in July that the federal government has taken ownership or control of one-third of the private economy.

“Now if President Obama, Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid are successful with this health bill, then that would be an additional 18 percent of the private economy the government would own or control,” she said. “With more than 50 percent of the private economy controlled by the government, you can no longer say with a straight face that we’re a free-market, capitalist system.”

She noted that Pelosi has pledged to give the public only three days to review the legislation, a timeframe she called a “tremendous insult to the American people.”

The current version of the bill now numbers nearly 2,000 pages.

“The final bill will come out tonight,” Bachmann said. “I have heard through the grapevine that we may have another 800 pages. Clearly the liberals who wrote it are ashamed of their own bill. They’re ashamed to have the American people know what’s in it.”

She continued, “If they were proud of it, they would want everyone to know what’s in it, and they would want everyone discussing the contents of this bill on television, in the newspapers, in magazines, on radio shows and over cups of coffee.”
